Adding Beads to a Long Picot |
N.B. Before starting a pattern where you intend to add beads to a very long picot using this method, work a test piece using your chosen thread. Tat a few ds, measure a picot of ½" (or the specified length of the very long picot) and see how many beads will fit (leaving a small space at the end for joining purposes). Note how many beads are required before starting. |
The following is a simple but effective way to add beads to a long picot before joining it later in the work. |
When you are ready to make the very long picot - stop before making the first half of the picot and add the beads that you want to use to the core thread and at the top of the last ds worked.
Place a safety pin or something which will hold the beads in place (remember that you will have to remove the safety pin later). Wriggle the thread and beads until the beads sit firmly against the last ds worked but leaving some slack so that the pin can be removed and a join made later. See fig. 1
Work the next part of the pattern until you need to join the picot back into the work.
Join and remove the pin. The beads will sit snuggly on the picot. See fig. 2 |

| One way is to tie a knot to keep the beads in place. | This way the end bead is anchored by taking the loop up and around the last bead. This would have to be looped round several times and is very fiddly. The loop would be inclined to slip off too. | Another way would be to use a split ring or the likes to anchor the end bead. |
