Covering a Plastic Ring with Tatting |
Tatting over a Cabone is basically the same idea as a split chain. I have drawn and notated this so that my multi purpose motif (and other designs) can be used.
I have used a small plastic ring (AKA a cabone ring) but equally, a brass ring could be used. Remember brass would not be washable but plastic is! |
Hold plastic ring in left hand and leaving a short tail of approximately 10", anchor the thread round the left pinkie. Fig. 1 |
Working in a clockwise direction, take the thread up through the plastic ring and put the shuttle through the loop made. Fig. 2 |
Gently tension the thread using the pinkie to pull the loop back down through the plastic ring. Fig. 3 |
The first half of the ds should now appear at the top of the ring. Fig. 4

Bring the shuttle over the top of the ring and take down through the loop formed at the top – 2nd half of ds formed. Fig. 5. Tighten and continue. Leaving loops of thread for picots as required for the specific pattern. |
