Frog  Motif & Frog Earrings - © Jane Eborall

 

 

 

The frog motif measures approx. 2” x 2 ½” when worked in No. 20 thread and 1½” x 1½” when worked in Altin Basak no. 50 thread.

 

Materials:-  Beads – 2 small yellow beads (on shuttle thread), 2 black beads with large holes (4 of each for earrings). Two earring findings.  PVA glue for stiffening earrings.

 

Abbreviations
SR split ring vsp very small picot RW reverse work
- picot Cl close ring

 

N.B. Adding the eye beads – keeping the yellow bead at the back of the hand when working the ring, pull the thread running round the hand through the black bead and form a loop (Eye1).  Take the shuttle through the loop and gently tighten thread (Eye 2).  Move the yellow bead into place on top of the black bead (Eye 3).  Next pull the thread back through the black bead once again and take the shuttle back through the new loop (Eye 4).  Ease the beads gently into place.  See diagrams below.

 

 

 

Head ring and body chain  Starting at S make ring of

10 vsp 8 add bead (explained above) 6 add bead 8 Cl and RW.  For earrings work 4 vsp 4 between the two eyes.  (The vsp is for the earring finding).

 

Continue with  chain of 4 vsp 2 vsp 6 vsp 2 vsp 8 vsp 2 vsp 6 vsp 2 vsp 4.  Join to vsp on head ring, tie and cut .

 

Upper legs – 2 shuttles

Join threads to upper vsp on body

SR        4 vsp 1 /  2 + vsp on body  4

SR        1 +vsp on previous R 5 / 8 – 1 Cl

Cut ends to form toes

 

Lower legs – 2 shuttles

Join thread to lower vsp on body

SR        2 +vsp on body 4 / 4 vsp 2

SR        7 vsp 2 / 2 +vsp on previous SR 5

SR        2 +vsp on previous SR 4 / 8 – 1

Cut ends to form toes
