Abreviations        
Wsh1 working shuttle 1 Wsh2 working shuttle 2 +B add bead to picot
SR split ring ^ very small picot    
Vlp very long picot to fit bead or button see hint below    
Dp down picot – work 2 first half ds, Vlp (using second half ds) then another second half of ds and back to pattern – see diagram below

 

Materials

No. 20 thread, 3 buttons or beads (Ό”) to add to very long picots, safety pin.

 

Hint:  All beads or buttons are added to picots just before they are made - there is no need to add beads to either thread before starting. 

To Add beads to very long picots either make Vlp and the following ds, place the bead or button on the picot and adjust the length of the picot to fit the bead or use this technique.  Place a safety pin to hold bead in position until the picot is joined later in the work when it can be removed.

 

 

Face

Using Wsh1 (yellow)

SR1:     6 – 2 / 4 ^ 4

SR2:     2 +(SR1) 4 Vlp (see hint above) 2 Dp (see abbreviations and diagram above – bead can also be added as in Vlp using a safety pin to secure) 2 Vlp (see hint) 4 – 2 / 4 +B(Dp – pull Dp through B, pull core thread up through loop, put Wsh2 through loop formed.  Check that core thread is still running through SR before continuing) 4

SR3:     2+(SR2) 6 / 4 ^ 4

Ch:       14 – 2

R4:       4 +B(2nd Vlp SR2) 4  Change to Wsh2

R5:       2 +(p on Ch) 6 – 6 – 2  Change to Wsh1

Ch:       2 +(3rd p on R5) 2

SR6:     3 / 1 – 1 – 1 – 1

SR7:     3 / 1 – 1 – 1 – 1

SR8:     3 / 1 – 1 – 1 – 1

Ch:       2 – 2

R9:       4 +B(1st Vlp SR2) 4  Change to Wsh2

R10:     2 +(p on Ch) 6 – 6 – 2  Change to Wsh1

Ch:       2 +(P on R10) 14  T & C base SR1

 

Tail – 1st side starting at bottom and leaving ends

SR1:     6 – 4 / 2 – 4

SR2:     4 – 4 / 4 – 4

Repeat last SR 9 times or for length required.

SR12:   4 – 4 +(vsp SR1 of face) 4 / 4  leave small gap to represent p before starting

2nd side

SR13:   4 +(vsp SR3 of face) 4 – 4 / 4

SR14 – SR23:   4 – 4 / 4 +(opposite SR on side 1) 4

SR24:   4 – 6 / 4 +(SR1) 2  Tie all four ends together to form ‘tail’.  Cut
