Split Ring Motif – 2 (with rings on split rings) - © Jane Eborall

This motif was first seen in the Ring of Tatter’s Newsletter some years ago.  I have now re-written and re-drawn it.  The third row may be attached to a bracelet to make a window / Christmas decoration.  I have given two lots of instructions to ensure that one of them suits your tension.  I used the first set of instructions for those shown above.

Materials:

Simli no. 50.  Two shuttles.  Bracelet or similar metal ring measuring 2 Ύ” in diameter if required..

Abbreviations

Round 2 – use shuttle with R for first half of SR and the second shuttle with G

SR1:     5 vsp 5 / vsp 5 (RoSR 4 + gap btwn SR’s on last round 4 Cl) 5

If your tension is not quite the same as mine or you have another size ring to use or if you just want a slightly bigger motif then use the following version!!!

Round 1 – use shuttle with G for first half of SR and the second shuttle with R

SR1:     8 – 8 / vsp 6 (RoSR 3 – 3 Cl) 6

SR2:     8 – 8 / 6 (RoSR 3 + p on 1st RoSR 3 Cl) 6

Repeat SR2 four times joining SR6 to vsp on SR1  T & C

Round 2 – use shuttle with R for first half of SR and the second shuttle with G

SR1:     5 – 5 / vsp 5 (RoSR 5 + gap btwn SR’s on last round 5 Cl) 5

*Ch:     5 + (p on SR of round 1) RW

R2:       5 – 5

Ch:       5

SR3:     5 – 5 / 5 (RoSR 5 + gap btwn next SR’s on last round 5 Cl) 5

Repeat from * to last chain which joins to the vsp on SR1

Round 3 - use shuttle with G for first half of SR and the second shuttle with R

SR1:     5 + (BR) 5 / vsp 5 (RoSR 5 + to p of ring of last round 5 Cl) 5

* Change to shuttle with R and use this as Wsh

Change to shuttle with G and use as Wsh

SR4:     5 + (BR) 5 / 5 (RoSR 5 + to same p of ring of last round as last join 5 Cl) 5

Repeat from * all the way round joining last chain to vsp on SR1  T & C

The following motifs were worked in a number 20 thread using the second version of the pattern.  They measure 3 Ό” in diameter.

Well, this is the end of THIS pattern!!  Please ask if you have any problems and I will see what I can do to sort them outMy email address.
